GRA 212 (Typography II) #sophomore | 2006 | Turkey
The task challenges students to shape snow letters, reflect on the natural elements, and on how the density of the material and gravity plays a role in making the letter as a packed-snow object. The exercise is subject to weather conditions.
I run the workshop in my typography class at Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey. It was a cold day. Student Burcu Baykan received her PhD in Digital Arts and Humanities at Trinity College Dublin in 2016, and she is now a faculty member at Bilkent University teaching design students.
The project was featured in a “Quipsology,” a division of UnderConsideration, chronicling the most curious, creative, and notable projects, stories, and events of the graphic design industry on a daily basis. The post by Armin Vit reads: “Dare I say coolest workshop ever?”
