Roman Capitals handout (pdf)

This analytical drawing task challenges students to render the correct aspect ratio and contrast for the Square Capital letterform. Students by drawing continuous “zig-zag” lines can effectively and intuitively render the observed stroke modulation [in the assigned model to copy] by controlling the movement amplitude, angle, and frequency or speed — the assessment being according to Albert Schmalz’s “Méthode pédagogique” (1991).

Material: Pencil on paper.
